The Beverley Shire Agricultural Machinery Museum (located within the grounds of Avondale Farm in Waterhatch road) will be open to the general public on Saturday June 17 from 8.30am until Noon, entry is free. Now in the hands of the National Trust, the place is once again farmed while still welcoming visitors to the site.Īvondale Farm is about 12kms west of the Wheatbelt town of Beverley and 22kms south-east of York. In 1979 Avondale featured in the sesquicentenary celebrations morphing into a tourist destination. Several important agricultural breakthroughs were made here, in particular those relating to virology and nutrition in sheep, at the time the backbone of the western Wheatbelt economy. When this was unsuccessful, it was gifted to the Department of Agriculture (now the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD)) and converted to an agricultural research station. The property passed through several hands and iterations before the government established a soldier settlement scheme here, subdividing the original extent into 20 smaller lots.

On an expedition in 1835, Governor James Stirling snapped up the land that became Avondale Farm.
